Welcome to the
ASA of West Michigan
Important news.
Prompt Pay legislation has been
introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives. ASA of West
Michigan is involved and will be working to make sure subcontractors get
the greatest possible benefit. There are
4 bills comprising the package.
Click here if you would like to
view or print the current drafts of the bills.
ASA of West Michigan is delivering significant and valuable benefits to its members. Programs with significant content have been provided
dealing with Retainage, Pay If Paid / Pay When Paid, the new Michigan
Lien Laws, Part 1 of Insurance issues, and Tips & Tricks for making
Change Orders fun and profitable.
The picture shows Steve Hilger delivering one of his excellent
presentations at a General Membership Meeting.
Any one of these programs
provided information well worth the cost of membership.
During the same time, as an
initial effort in the governmental relations area, ASAWM has been
engaged in tracking and reporting on the developments dealing with the
changes in the Michigan tax structure, and has provided useful
information to members, as well as engaging in the process to shape the
legislation.
The BPI (Business Practice
Interchange) sessions at membership meetings provide a unique
opportunity for ASAWM members. During these sessions members questions
about the business practices of subcontractors, suppliers, and customers
will be responded to by other members in attendance. This structured
learning activity is far superior to the "trial and error" method of
learning. This activity is unique to ASAWM.
When a company joins ASAWM,
they also become a member of the national association. This provides
many benefits in addition to those available locally. The national
organization works in the areas of legislative,
legal, and subcontractor development initiatives. The ASAWM dues are
only $995 for the entire company for a year, allowing all members of the
company to participate fully. A significant portion of the ASAWM dues,
$400, passes through to the national organization.
Jack
Austhof, President of Sobie Company is serving as the President
of ASA of West Michigan for 2007-2008.

board members. Contact any of them for further information and to learn
how ASAWM can help you and your company be more successful.
Guidelines for a Successful Construction Project is
a publication jointly developed by the American Subcontractors
Association (ASA), the Associated General Contractors (AGC), and the
Associated Specialty Contractors (ASC). It contains numerous sections
based on the collective best and desirable practices for construction
jobs. It is available here for ASA members convenience.

If you have not yet sent in your
membership, do so right now.
Don't wait. Start getting the
